I’m Michael Doolittle, a professional photographer based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, specializing in intimate fine art photography, and I’m the creator of The Bodies Project.

I created The Bodies Project because over the course of countless photoshoots, I realized that not only did a lot of individuals struggle with body positivity, but the body positivity movement itself could sometimes backfire and create even more feelings of shame — everyone is telling me I should love my body, but I just… don’t. Is there something wrong with me?

I wanted to create a safe space for individuals from all walks of life to have candid conversations about their relationships with their bodies. In the past year I’ve photographed dozens of individuals, all of whom have shared their stories about their bodies — stories of self-discovery, trauma, addiction, mental illness, abuse, recovery, growth, and triumphs.

.How do I participate in the project?

Want to share your story? Participation in the project is open to adults of all body types, ages, gender identities, ability statuses, and racial or ethnic backgrounds. The cost for the photoshoot is $100, which must be paid at the time of booking and is non-refundable. As this project is public, participation requires a signed model release. Participants receive at least 12 digital photographs from their session, with the option to purchase physical products like prints, wall art, and albums.
